Introduction

Shri Digamber Jain Siddha Kshetra, Siddhavarkoot, carries profound historical antiquity and scriptural importance, serving as a vital spiritual epicenter within Jainism. Documented in the sacred text Nirvankand as a revered Siddha Kshetra (land of salvation), it is celebrated as the holy site where two Chakravarti monarchs, Sanatkumar and Mandhva, along with ten Kamdevs and millions of ascetic monks achieved Moksha (liberation). Nestled on a scenic plateau near the confluence of the Narmada and Kaveri rivers, its physical remains lay buried under the earth for centuries due to medieval turmoil before being systematically rediscovered in 1878 AD (V.S. 1935) following a divine dream by Bhattarak Mahendrakeertiji of Indore. Subsequent excavations revealed structural remnants, ancient ruins, and highly venerated artifacts, leading to its formal architectural restoration and a massive Pratishtha consecration ceremony by 1894 AD (V.S. 1951). From an academic and archaeological standpoint, Siddhavarkoot offers immense pedagogical value for scholars exploring the religious history, epigraphy, and artistic evolution of Central India. The temple complex acts as a chronological ledger, preserving inscriptions that date back to the 11th century (Vikram Samvat 11) on the idol of Lord Adinath, alongside an exquisite idol of Lord Chandraprabhu dated to V.S. 1545 (1488 AD). These epigraphical records provide key insights into regional art styles, patron networks, and medieval scripting practices. Furthermore, the geographic co-existence of this Jain complex right beside the major Hindu pilgrimage site of Omkareshwar highlights an academic case study in ancient inter-faith co-existence and shared sacred landscapes. The architectural layout of its 13 shrines, combined with the presence of structural ruins, provides valuable resource material for researchers documenting the Parmar-era art influences and the wider heritage conservation history of Madhya Pradesh
